Osmanya has no future, forget about it. Its between arabic and latin. The two most recognizeable scripts to the average somali, both diaspora and at home. No ones going to bother learning that absolute chicken scratch, its rebranded version of revised latin. ie double letters get their own diacratic but in the case of osmanya. an entire different letter. It'll be a good enthusiast language. I wonder who brought it to the internet as a script anyways. That being said, next competent leader should put some focus on revising the latin script while promoting the wadaad script in the rural areas to boost literacy. I see a future prospering somalia having a dual scripts like india.

Osmanya does and has a future as it was closer to being adopted on the 70's. also Arabic is not even suitable for the Somali language and as wadaad script is useful for learning the quran.
why would you want to use a foreign alphabet instead of using your own indigenous script.

This isn't 'indigenous' its a language created in the last century. Our indigenous script is long gone and is in the process of discovery via archeology.
The wadaad script on the other hand fits our language very well, the entire country knows how to read it an its been in use for a millennia.
Osmanya, It was not even close to being adopted in the 70s, it was a discussion between latin and wadaad, I have changed my views and now I am an adamant supporter of both those scripts, they both have pros which somalia desperately needs.
Osmanya on the other hand, its an unknown script relegated to the naive nationalists or puntland first people. Look, I use to support osmanya a lot before, but after some further thinking. I am now against it, it would be like shooting your self in the foot. Just stunting development.

Arabic and Latin have strong support and resources, not the language themselves im talking about the script here. The time has long passed for us to adopt an indigenous script like osmanya or some of the others.

Why can't osmanya and wadaad be adopted as Serbia uses both cyrilic and latin also osmanya is a Somali script. Just like with the Berbers using arabic, latin and tifinagh

I agree we should stick with the Latin script....but we need to be careful with adopting an Arabic script.

We're already fighting Ana Arab danyeers already but once that Arabic script gets adopted?

"Why are you using that jahil kaafir Latin script - we should only be using the script from the language Allah revealed the Quran in"

Then it's....."Why are we even speaking in Somali....we should be speaking in the language of the Holy Quran - The Speech of God!!!"

I remeber a Tik-Tok vid of some Somali Dawah guy wannabe with that exact line of thinking. Bad-mouthing our language whilst saying that Arabic was better.

It's a slow and gradual process but if them Sudani niggas can be arabised then...so can we.

One question: Why are Somalis against and are ashamed with using osmanya script as it is not the case with Punjabis,Greeks or Bulgarians or recently invented scripts like n'ko or santali script

Can't even lie...I don't mind having a native script (for prestige mainly) but the Osmanya script is soooo goofy πŸ˜‚

If the script looked aesthetic then I would be its biggest supporter...

but it looks like some alien script made for some Sci-Fi Hollywood film

It's better we stick with Latin.

What you talking it don't even look goofy at all and is very foolish of you to even think like that

Thats why I made a clear distinction between the language and script, Ana arab dosent exist outside of social media. Its not a thing, it would be helpful tool in boosting literacy. Everyone knows hingaad and the quran so they can switch easily. I can even tell you right now as a person who grew up with both scripts I can read somali way easier with the arabic script. Being arabised is a valid concern but sometimes you gotta look past that.

Furthermore, whats stopping us from applying the exact same logic onto the Latin script? You must be fair here. Thats why I support both scripts strongly

osmanya does look goofy, it hasent had time to evolve yet and its new to the eyes. It has geez, arabic and latin influences I can definitely see that. Latin and Arabic on the other hand have been around for multiple millennia. Isnt there another somali script
Arabic looks ugly and complicated as osmanya is simple and neat when it comes to writing and why the hell should i use a foreign script.

The kacaan did discuss it. They did discuss far wadaad too. They discussed the pros and cons.

I think its a great idea to have the latin script. The Turks have it too
