Damn that's before I was born. But don't fall for nostalgia. Somalia, and Xamar in particular, was shitty place. Do you know Xamar didn't even house sewer system let along running water or electricity. Somalis need to raise their expectation and standards.

How would you know, if you weren't born?

I was born in the 80s and lived there until 1991. No sewer system was ever built in Xamar. For running water, we had elevated berkad in our house that was filled by truck. And our house was built mid-80s. I'm tried of Somalis and their mediocre standards.

There's a difference between the ghetto, and the uptown neighbourhood. Don't inflict your tuff upbringing to the reality of the once 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'.

You might wanna try that again. I had family members who lived all over Xamar.

I don't know what point you're trying to make. Even by African Capital standards, Xamar was way behind the curve. There was no formal Xamar city plan, sewer system... hell even the streets were not named and houses had no numbers. Primitive!

My mom used to tell me how sweet life was back then in xamar. I think you are underrating xamar .

Prototype

Heads high
I agree with @Raamsade Somalis have extremely low standards and are also extremely delusional.

They brag online about their dusty villages calling them "Cities" when people have this.

Again, How do you know? People like you are haters, I know life was hard back in the day for you and @Raamsade, but making false accusations is completely absurd.

Nigga I didn't even reach a stage of aqli when the war happened but I've read neutral accounts of life in the 70s and 80s of Somalia.

It is a fact that we didn't have a sewege system. Electricity was only for the few elites. That is, electricity for all day.

If you asked someone who lives in Bronx, and other one who lives in Manhattan to describe NY. You will have two different cities from cleanness, security and beauty. I Hope that you got my point.

Somalis in 70, 80 had large middle class pilots, doctors, teachers, working class in ME and businessmen. Owning houses in Mogadishu was easy for government workers (public sector) through mortgage and middle class families got their mortgage from private construction companies. Life was good and beautiful. My mum talked lot of her yearly trips to London and Italy.

My mom told me there were long Soviet style food rationing lines and you were only allowed to go to a few shops in your neighbourhood.

You were only allowed half a kg of sugar a week per household and sugar was only sold three times a week. This wasn't enough because families were large and you always have guests coming for shaah

The government controlled everything. This is why you have large Somali communities in DMV that came in the 1970s. They fled communism
