@Thegoodshepherd is this indicating that you can reach the towns in terms of security? or does this mean there is an actual road there and if so, what grade is the road(dirt or paved). I am confused by this map because I know the road to kismayo and mogadishu is paved and it shows it as 'red' inaccessible, so I assume this is referring to the security conditions right? not so much 'road quality'

@Thegoodshepherd might have a better idea on what's going on but I think those roads are accessible but not considered a safe route by the NGOs that the map is designed for.

Still need the basic precautions though (technical, plenty of khat and bribe money for unofficial roadstops).

All the roads marked inaccessible are controlled by the khawarij. It means that no one can use them without paying them a transit tax. It is not a safe route for anyone. people fly from Mogadishu to Beledweyne, for example.

The Khawarij have free reign everywhere south of Mudug. They can move around in the countryside with virtually no opposition. Even in Gedo where they have been cleared out of every major town, they still pose a danger to any traveler who has not payed them in advance. There has been no progress on securing the roads connecting the various regions for over six years. If you want to go from anywhere to anywhere, you have pay tax to the khawarij. This also means that they can punch far above their weight. They can easily move troops from one front to another meaning that they can quickly support fighters in Hiraan all the way from Lower Juba. If you understand this map and still believe that "Somalia" exists, you are a dupe.

You know what I tell hawiye, you sure know how to source soldiers to fight PL constantly kkkkkk but you can't fight the person who is laying bombs for you lol. Those guys are lost wallahi, that's why I put it down to history, they simply have none. You see how they amass soldiers when their told to fight galkacyo but they cant do that against shabab kkkkk. Their in bed together thats why

Correction:

Burco to Laas anod to Garowe is tarmac road or laami.

Masha allah it's probably the best but i'm talking about the old network
Obviously the south needs complete rehabilitation beginning with Xamar-Jowhar & Xamar-Afgooye

What i am talking about is the currently inaccesible part around Bakool, Bay, Gedo region

Nah that's a terrible road burco to garowe. My dad transited hargeisa and got a taxi from there to garowe and said it was so riskyyyyyyyyyy and the roads are so damaged especially from burco to las anod part, it gets better garowe to las anod but it's not the best road either. The best road in puntland is garowe to bosaso, it's not a single bump and smooth as hell. Galkayo to garowe is another shocking one also but not as bad burco to las anod my father said.

You have a valid point about roads in pl even Farmaajo loved it on his Grand tour to the boqortoyada

I remember when he went through Galmudug he complained about his kidneys hurting due to bad roads :ftw9nwa:

I can't wait till all our roads are paved. I want all coastal roads to eyl-garacad-bayla-hafun being a nice tarmac road. Then I want the road to erigavo to bosaso, pure tarmac so I can visit the calmadows. The galdogob to garacad road paved as hell. I admit those roads are NOT PAVED. Currently it's just dirt track which is the 1st phase, we just need asphalt.

Galmudug potholes are weapons of mass destruction

Farmajo ride through galkayo to garowe he didn't even say anything cause it's still 100 times better then anything in galmudug. Galkayo to Garowe is abused in PL cause it's being compared to garowe to bosaso stretch.
