They all seem to be carrying the same weapons. Not sure whether it's because AK-47's are cheap or they are imitating out of date African military tactics from the cold war but you need to split up the roles for different field actions.
Ak-47 is pretty decent for urban warfare but when you attack Al-Shabaab's camps it would be better to have some decent marksmen in your squad. African warfare it's mostly skinnies shooting each other from across open fields.
They mainly depend on lucky shots instead of distance and accurate shots. 10 qualified marksmen can easily take out a 100 skinnies in an open field with minimum causalities as long as they hit them from beyond the AK-47's 800-1km range.
Of course they ain't cheap to train or equip but a smaller team could easily do the job just as well. Since Al-Shabaab hasn't got any artillery; a team of 100 snipers could easily surround their camp and take pot shots and starve them out (unless they have hostages which then requires different tactics).
We shouldn't copy foreign military setups just for the sake of it. Warfare in Somalia is unique so they have to come up with unique strategies that fit the job better. However all that is useless without decent intelligence
