The history of the guurti of JLS goes back to the SNM era, they were established to recruit fighters and bring financial contribution from their clans to SNM. Any able isaaq who refuces them were labeled as a faqash collaborators.
Isaaqs has 8 subclans each one of them have the equal number of guurti ,This tradition still exists . 1993 non isaaq somalinders got their fair share of the guurti. Today The guurti represents all unique somaliland clans. So even very small communities like fiqishini or gahayle do have members in the guurti.

Majority of somalilandrs are not happy about the guurti today , they became useless . We want to reform them. And include landlords, academics , religious groups, caltural groups, woman and most importantly the legitimate clan leaders.

The region is facing a sensitive time stability wise Cagjar is appeasing Ogadens even feinting secessionist ideals. Its all lies in my opinion but it shows whos worth appeasing and whos a background character.

I will ask this how do you expect more seats when you are completely absent from even your areas politics? Whatever leaders in charge you bend over and give them no pushback and your affairs are entirely advocated by either the Ogaden who feels bad for you or the one who hates you. I’ve always wondered can minorities in SR do for self??
