Somaliland khat ban brings Ethiopian economy to it’s knees

“ Since the one ban on imports to Somaliland took effect a week ago money circulation within the Oromoia zone is said to be almost zero prompting leaders to pursue joint efforts with their Somali administrative counterparts in Jigjiga.

According to Geeska Afrika sources leaders within the two communities whose economy mostly relies on the Khat trade are holding consultative meetings dubbed 'Abagaadhaha'

'The main objective of Abagaadhaha is to come up with strategies to entice both the federal government of Ethiopia and that of Somaliland towards revoking the ban' our source revealed

The oromia community is also reported to be separately pursuing avenues of meeting with the countries federal authorities in a bid to resolve the issue which if continues their entire zone's economy will break down

Similarly just like the oromia and Somali regional administration's economies are under strain since the Khat trade suspension is does that of the federal state in Ethiopia and in Somaliland as well thence a solution is imminent mostly the ban revocation.”

Somaliland spends 400k $ a day on khat, that money should be used to build roads inside Hargeisa and fix the awfull dhiiqo on the streets, it is embarrassing to call a indian slum looking town a capital city.

Good. Kenya and ethiopia should be kept in check.

See secessionists this is how a true wadani thinks. even tho i support the fgs i still don't support ethiopia blindly in everything. We should never be dependant on them fully.

Northern Somalia needs to follow the Gulf countries model of farming... distilling the sea water and then build a massive glass houses with controlled temperatures

@Yahya thats not practical do you even know how much water growing khat wastes ? Yemen depleted their own water reserves after switching from growing coffee beans to growing Khat. If you don’t have natural landscape needed for growing khat you can’t just switch to other methods to make up for it. The amount of water needed to grow khat in areas it otherwise couldn’t grow is not sustainable

Growing khat in Somalia just isn’t an option especially when we barely have enough water reserve as it is now. Messing up the few areas of Somalia that can actually grow khat is NOT worth it and anyone who thinks it is suffers from 68IQ
