:yacadiim:To the lurkers and users wondering what "Somalinimo" is, and how it is defined and what it's relation is to Islam, here's a bit of suugo science for you that'll explain everything.

Somalinimo is broken into 3 parts:

1.) Diin:
  • First is Diin. It is first because it is the most important.
  • As Allah(SWT) states in the Quran in Surah Al Imran verse 19 "The religion of God is Islam."
  • Somalis by nature are a God fearing and spiritual people, so it would makes sense as they would take a monotheistic religion (as they already had a belief system before that was in tune with the concept of monotheism before.)
  • Islam is also the glue that holds all Somalis together. All Somali clans past and present, from the biggest landheer to the smallest langaab, from waqooyi to konfuur, and bari to galbeed can barely agree upon anything let alone come together, but the sole exception to that unwritten rule is Islam. All clans can agree that Islam is the one true religion. This was true back then as it is now.
2.) Dhiig:
  • This point is obvious and self explanatory, but this was less obvious back then. Before Gregor Mandel discovered DNA a system was needed to be put in place to identify who was and wasn't a Somali. As other ethnic groups look eeriely similar to Somalis, both genotypically and phenotypically.
  • This is were Abtiris comes into play.
  • Ab = Father and Tiris = counting.
  • Abtiris is essentially the counting of your father and his father and his father's father and so on and so forth all the way back to the clans' founding or the origin of the Somali race. As it is needed to be a Somali one needs a father, and as it is your father's clan you hail from. To be a Somali you also need a clan to identify with.
  • In Islam everyone derives from their father's lineage and this, just so happened to collude with the Somali people and the culture.
  • Our abtiris also (depending on who you ask) starts with obscure figures that "allegedly" originated from Hijaz and were descend from the Holy Prophet (SAW) himself, thus drawing us closer to the Prophet's family and gaining legitimacy amongst other muslim communities when trade or politics was being discussed.
  • Islam is also our identifier as it makes us stand out. Out the entire Horn of Africa no other ethnicity within the area can safely say they have a 100% muslim population unlike Somalis.
3.) Dhaqan:
  • Our dhaqan, or culture is deeply interlinked and intertwined with Islam. So much so to the point they are inseparable.
  • As compared to Ahlul-kitaab (the people of the book) in judaism is exclusively Jewish centric, thus only allowing Jewish culture to flourish and reign supreme. And Christianity which is being proselytized by European or European descend missionaries, which in turn makes the converted masses want to emulate European Western culture.
  • Islam allows the current culture that is in place to flourish and grow, provided that said culture doesn't oppose Islam or any of it's values.
  • Islam was accepted by the Somali peoples without violence. As there have not been ONE Arab soldier recorded to set foot on Somali soil and conquer it (See Muslim conquests of Persia) , nor have Somalis been enslaved and force to adopted Islam as a form of emancipation (See the Arab slave trade).
  • On top that, Islam is the one thing that has actually kept the Somali people from being enslaved by Muslim Arabs, having their land displace by the expantionist Amhara, resisted the colonial Italians and kept Oromo hordes at bay. Despite all this, Somali culture has not only survived, but in fact expanded through out East Africa.

For you see if one is missing then you cannot call yourself a Somali.

:trumpsmirk:I call this the Somali Triumvirate.

MashaAllah bro. I nominate you as President of Greater Somalia

I am Muslim first without the S. When I say I am Muslim first I am talking about my spiritual belief and connection with my creator then my nation and people come after.

Not to mention Islam is interlinked with the Somali identity. They are one.

I'm Muslim first, Somali second and the rest comes after. Islam and Somali goes together, you can't be Somali without being a Muslim. You're an outcast in Somali society if you're a Somali kaffir.
