we know adal was multi ethnic with somalis being the largest demographic. correct me if im wrong but wasn't arabic lingua franca and language of the courts?
look at the names of some sultans
sultan mansur
sultan mohamed abu bakar mahfuz (arab name)
sultan barakat
other names foreign to somalis
shamsudin sa'adudin etc
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adal_Sultanate
there are records of somali clans but was clan identity as strong as modern somalis?
how strong was arabic? if adal never fell would the urban people of different ethnicities embraced arabic fully (for easier communication) and become arabized?
