Somalis are picking up timo jileecs' and dheega cas' bad practices

Galaan Adan Abdi was abducted from the Dagahley refugee camp in Dadaab and taken 150 kilometers away to the remote village of Wara Ademasajida, where she intended to marry Mohamed Kassim Tifow.

I don't think it's Somalis picking up a bad practice, just exploitation of the poor by evil individuals usually they make these arrangements as a way to escape poverty out of desperation. Wara Ademasajida sounds like an Oromo village.

Somalis in Dadab Camp have do endure precarious situations.

Whats sad if you read this link, many of them were successful whilst others were leading normal lives , with proper homes until the floods destroyed their livelihoods and communities.

The situation in Dadaab is a reflection of economic desperation rather than a widespread cultural shift among Somalis. In many cases, extreme poverty forces people into harmful practices, including child marriage, as a survival strategy. This is common in many refugee camps worldwide, where families, lacking economic opportunities, make desperate choices.

Dadaab itself is a unique case compared to IDP camps inside Somalia. Many of the refugees there were originally self-sufficient before being displaced, and now, with limited resources and opportunities, they face even greater vulnerability.

It's also worth noting that forced marriage, especially involving minors, is not an accepted or dominant Somali practice. It happens in pockets, often in contexts where families are struggling to survive.

So the problem is related to structural issues rather than a moral decline among Somalis or acceptable practice.

Yeah like in the west, I'd say instances of forced marriage is rare, while for Pakistanis, it's still the same shit no matter their social class

I've seen multiple TikToks so far this year featuring some new couple featuring an old man and a young girl. This issue won't be ending for us anytime soon. Until the country develops creepy old men will have no issue marrying young girls. Poor men will keep on giving away their daughters to any man with money.

Arab culture. Somalis never used to do this

That's because we didn't have a bunch of poor vulnerable women around. Fathers(who shouldn't have had kids in the first place) with a bunch of kids are cool with marrying off their daughters to strangers for a quick buck.

It's rare anecdotes , people who bring it up or it makes headlines its because it's something out of the ordinary. If it was a regular occurrence you wouldn't need a tiktok post where people display their shock and dismay at it, you would commonly witness it.

And yes it often happens in context where families are struggling to survive like i said. So if people want it not to happen they should deal with the underlying economic structural problems behind it. Like creating better stability so people aren't forced into desperate situations or giving them opportunity to rebuild their lives in more secure settings

If people are displaced by floods etc from their land, homes and lose everything and become poor due to dispossession and end up struggling in a refugee camp, it has nothing to do with the country being underdeveloped or some underlying economic failure inside that country. People will also do extreme things to escape hunger and the insecure IDP camps creates vulnerabilities ripe for exploitation. It is not the case for most Somalis in Somalia who don't actually experience any of this.

This kind of cases are super rare, that’s why there’s an outrage and everyone is shocked, we are much better than dhegacaas who don’t blink an eye when they do this kind of things

This got nothing to do with timo jilecs lol this has been happening for a long time. A couple years ago they wanted the age of marriage for girls to be 9 years old in Somalia. This isnt new. Its disgusting but as long as theres no govt going against it, dads will be giving away their girls
