@AbdiFreedom was right after all, I have lately been seeing so many somalis that can easily pass as West African or another type of madow damn I didn't realise how diverse looking our ethnic-group really is. For example I genuinely thought this girl was a muslim African-American until recently I was shocked..



I realised she was somali after after she made a dead old joke about big foreheads, also I've noticed it tends to be american-somali diaspora for some odd reason that look the most "madow" idk maybe its their style.

Perhaps I've been naive but I genuinely always thought that we all had a specific "look", of course 30 million people are not all going to look alike. This the somali "look" I am talking about :

After social media I realised I was wrong, I have seen somalis that look like Arabs, West-Africans, South-Americans, North-Africans even seen a somali that that looked Malaysian lol

The “Arab” looking girl you posted actually passes for a Bangladeshi girl. The guy below her looks straight Somali. As for Halsaa (girl in orange dress) she also looks very Somali if you saw her without a wig, you would retract that she looks west African.
The last girl looks completely different without her eccentric eye makeup & also looks like a normal Somali

All of them look Somali. Skin tone doesn't mean much among Somalis. I've seen two fullblood sisters where one is as dark as coal and the other is a medium brown. I've seen a brother who is yellowish with a sister as dark as coal and vice versa. My own mother is a light yellow nowadays whereas I can darken to look like an Canfar nomad in the desert. But what tells you we're all Somali are the facial features. Most Somalis look incredibly similar in that respect, including all of the people you shared.

We are the result of mixing between pre-historic Nilotic types very similar to the Dinka and pre-historic Egyptians who have no real modern proxy but the closest you get are Copts and Bedouins in Arabia. On top of that we have more minor layers of what looks like Ancient Yemeni and native Ethiopian Hunter-Gatherer ancestry (peaks in Omotic speaking Southwest Ethiopians). So basically broadly Middle-Eastern and Nilotic looking people + centuries of selection on our ancestors' part. That's why we can have anything from straight to "nappy" hair with a more common middleground of loose curls of varying looseness and why our complexions can vary as much as they do and, for whatever reason, we seem to have selected for more "Caucasoid" facial features, something that's even been demonstrated in the literature:

But it seems our pre-historic Egyptian ancestors were more of the straight nose, softer featured types rather than the prominent nosed sort that probably came with Iran-Neolithic ancestry to Arabia and the rest of the Middle-East.

All the individuals I posted are 100% Somali but nobody would stop and go “they don’t look Somali” just because they happen to have different skin tones. Something about them just screams Somali regardless of their skin tone. I can’t explain it.

I have family members that look like all these individuals. The diversity in our looks is overstated unless you are counting minority non-ethnic Somali tribes.
