I have 3C hair, but it gets annoying. Like i’ve never seen anyone else have such an obsession over hair type besides somalis.

It seems that Somalis are way more focused on phenotype over hair. My mum explained the difference. Bantus and most of Sub Saharans’ hair has a harder texture and look poofy. Cushitic people have curly hair, sometimes wavy but very rarely pin straight . Maadows have a z pattern and curly hair is a S or an O.

hmmm is it a new trend. Most Somali men I know don’t care about their own hair texture ( but maybe for girls they have a preference).
This is just my perspective J*reer is more of an ethnic term to Bantus who obviously have Afro hard hair. Our language is a very literal sense. We call Indians timo jileec (soft hair), We call Chinese/East Asian indho yar (small eyes), We call Arabs dhego cas (Red ears) etc.

I feel like somali mothers want their children to have softer hair, but when it comes to them having "bad" hair, they will make fun of it at any chance.
It happened to my sister, and I felt bad because you should love your child without making fun of something they did not choose to have. And, that is why people have self hate and make fun of them. It all stems from childhood.
