Its funny seeing these Somalis thinking democracy is holding 1m1v voting, they don't know that's just one part of democracy, it's like one factor in a big ass equation.
To be a true democracy you need to adhere to freedom of speech, freedom of media, freedom of religion and equality for all citizens irrespective of clan, ethnic, sect, religious or any identity group even lgbtq now. It's about transparency(not secrecy which Somalis favor) and accountability. Somalis don't hold favourable conditions to ever be a democracy, so it's best to cease trying to be what your not and embrace what the hell you are.
So why claim your a democracy or aspire to be one, when you don't even fulfill 10% of the equation that is required of a democracy. Iran holds one man and one vote, who calls them a democracy?
Somalis need to sit down and admit your not a democracy nor is it even possible in your cultural context so create a system that is at least realistic and can allow for your society to develop and progress while being stable.
But it's damn cheesy when you see the leaders there trying to act like a democracy, as a diaspora we feel embarrassed to talk to our peers when we know full well what a democracy entails. Their is no cutting corners or try to redefine democracy to suit your warped views, the equation is established either u meet it or u don't.
What Somalis need to do is stop trying to be something your not, it looks cheesy and fake, just create some neo traditionalist system because your people cannot rise to a democratic level and will remain in identity politics. At least then things can be done when you embrace your a lower social human.

even at its official level, when in reality it's down to clan(identity) or personal gain(something even Abe lincoln said a leader is judged on how he neglects himself for the greater good of majority). They don't hold the idealogy of democracy or even the values underpinning it like Abe Lincoln stated.
