Before South Sudan split from the North and became, the world's youngest nation, back in 2011, I remember how, the world used to cry for the South Sudanese. There was soo much propaganda against the North Sudanese. The Northerners were portrayed as, bloodthirsty savages, that were treating the, good, innocent, peace loving Christian Southerners, inhumanly. Even animals were treated better by the North, according to the rest of the world.
Now of course, the Southerners were oppressed, there's no denying it. Fact is, the Southerners were discriminated against, VERY BADLY. There was a lot of bigotry against them for the colour of their skin and their religion. But, that was in the Northern half of the country. In their lands, the Southerners had it good. They spoke their own local languages and were free to practice their Christian and Animist religions and they governed themselves to a degree.
Also, of course the Northerners at times, did commit war crimes and other crimes against humanity to the Southerners during, the two civil wars they both had, but the Southerners also slaughtered each other. The most deadliest massacre in South Sudan, The Bor Massacre, in 1991, in which 2 thousand or so Dinka people were slaughtered. That massacre was not committed by the North, as you would be forgiven for thinking, but it was done by their fellow Southerners, the Neur people. And Now, 26 years on from that terrible slaughter, 6 years on from freedom and nationhood, both Dinka and Neur are still at each other's throats.
Where are the people now? Where is the world that was shedding fake tears for the Southerners? How come they don't cry for Neur children being raped and killed by Dinka militia men? Then I realised, they really don't care for Southerners and their wellbeing. The only reason why the world gave the South freedom and nation is, for Christianity and not wanting Muslims to rule over and have access to billions of barrels of oil, that the South sits on.
