State of Somali parenting

So Saturday morning rolls around and its time to hit the town to do my weekly errands when I notice one Somali family on their way to dugsi with the children dressed up as mini wadaads while oncoming were a white family on the way to the park with the kids dressed up in roller skating gear. The look of envy on the little Somali kids faces was truly heartbreaking that got me thinking are Somali parents in general (of course there are exceptions here and there) failing to raise happy kids constantly sending them to school & dugsi rinse and repeat?

It's really sad how somalis have changed. back in the days we used to run naked after goats with a complete innocence.
Now they force little girls and boys to wear the arab attire :O27GWRK:

A lot of things is wrong with Somali parenting. Many of it is down to the culture clash and generational gap.

Is there anything more useless than dugsi?

Your kid prolly gonna end up slangin coke either way

I swear dugsi is the worst thing ever. The kids hate it and the teacher beats them!

How about sending them to swimming school or letting them join a football club or getting extra math lessons? It's not that hard to ASK your child what they would like to do.

And dressing up little girls in jilbabs a is horrible. I see it all the time

I see nothing wrong with taking your kids to dugsi but If I gotta be honest dugsi is a waste of time

kids should be homeschooled about those things an hour on a wednsay and thursday is more than enough than they have sat sun to do what they want or do some family activities well thats what my parents did and it was a much better option

You think two hours is enough to make progress in what the parents want them to learn?

Dugsi should be a 15 min affair, recite your cashar, get a new one, and bounce. What's the point of 200 kids sitting around doing nothing?

Parents use dugsi as a daycare and the kids suffer burn out and end up being shot most of the time anyway.

You're not a real Somali kid if you never went to dugsi.

Somali parents need a schedule for their kids. I sometimes feel sorry for the kids who go to school 5 days a week then dugsi for 7 or 8 hours during the weekend. Kids need to be kids. Let them run around the play ground. Dugsi should be one hour on the weekends. Take the kids to the park, their favorite restaurant, swimming in the summer and ice skating during the winter, let them have memories while they're still young. I'm glad I had the best childhood ever. My daddy spoiled us rotten. :rejoice:

It's like a school. It's more than quran. The more organised ones also teach Arabic and hadiths.

I agree with you that kids do suffer mental burn outs, 5 days at school and all weekend at dugsi. 10/11/12 year olds suffer mental fatigue like that.

Bro all I learned was how to memorize foreign language poetry, box, and avoid collective punishment by sadists.

Shit was wack as f*ck.

somali parents send the kids to the dugsi to have a few hours for themselfs .
Everytime you went to the dugsi your parents were doing some nasty business at home

You mean your parents were freaks and needed your crusty ass out the house to get their freak on?
