Talking about mental health leads to worse mental health

Now, some researchers warn that we are in danger of overdoing it. Mental health awareness campaigns, they argue, help some young people identify disorders that badly need treatment — but they have a negative effect on others, leading them to over-interpret their symptoms and see themselves as more troubled than they are.
The researchers point to unexpected results in trials of school-based mental health interventions in the United Kingdom and Australia: Students who underwent training in the basics of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy did not emerge healthier than peers who did not participate, and some were worse off, at least for a while.
And new research from the United States shows that among young people, “self-labeling” as having depression or anxiety is associated with poor coping skills, like avoidance or rumination.

Interesting article. It appears all the pathologizing of '1st world problems' and the growing prominence of 'therapy talk' has produced more miserable young people.

Good post and good find.
I realised people are good at self diagnosing themselves a lot on tick tock and other social medias. People exaggerate their struggles a lot on the internets by either

A. self diagnosing themselves instead of seeking professional help

And B.
thinking they could relate with other people and their disorders by self excusing themselves.

But this Mental health concerns is just a western phenomenon I guess. People from the eastern collective cultures are very tough on you and would pressure you to get your shit together.
It’s good that we as a society (1st worlders) that we’re concern of peoples mental health and their struggles but it’s not good that we’re over diagnosing them.

Another issue I one to address is this:
kids and adults are highly depressed due to high demands from the authorities. Poor nutrition, sugar, internet (the new drug) that’s common in our routine and diets . We’re expected to wake up early and expect to show up on time. This leads to “mental health” so is not that surprising that people are over diagnosing themselves to see what’s wrong with them.
Because mental health is increasing and that’s a concern. How we’re addressing them requires more training here. People are already pulling their hair off to see if their fit to this modern world.

Countries that are highly developed are physically and mentally draining. So it’s understandable why people are easily mentally sick.
