What if the majority of a given country is for a ban against covering ones face? Isn't that democracy? Obviously the arguments for a ban have to be sound and they are imho.

Killing fellow citizens or people based on skin color or religious creed goes against the laws that are set in place to prevent these sort of things. That's why there is a constitution ( to protect the minorities). Democracy isn't perfect and there are many flaws but it's still the best form of government.
