This is not outside of the norm. If you remember in 2017, former al-Shabaab spokesperson Robow surrendered and was also given clemency. What exactly is your problem with this?

Robow's current predicament is besides the point. He was granted amnesty just like Janan was without being a member Farmaajo's clan. Therefore, how can you claim Janan's deal was motivated by qabilism when people of other clans were also given amnesty?

Firstly, I need a source for the claims I have bolded. The government holding a photo op after capturing an elusive fugitive and militia leader does not constitute a "hero's welcome".

Secondly, you're suffering from selective outrage. The fact you refer to the former spokesperson of al-Shabaab, an organisation that has killed thousands of Somalis, as a "miskeen" only highlights your bias.

This situation is not ideal I agree. I would also like to see Janan in jail for his actions but I am also a realist. If this deal contains a known security threat and leads to safer Gedo I support it. I assume if he violates the clauses in his deal, like Robow did, all bets are off and he will be arrested. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
