No the first time he betrayed the second time he thought himself as hawiye and was fighting for them
In both push they made a mistake of taking there time to move while the usc usually attacked fast they were basically seating near xamar for weeks and when fighting came all there food resources were depleted plus
Also like nabeele said the darod(mainly merahan had a split while the second fight was going on) there is a video of it actually of some of the captured darod talking about it

I think darod were lucky they lost that war because if they won snm would've got involved and it could've led to Rwanda style genocides because the only excuses isaaq elders used to calm down snm was that darod civilians had nothing to do with Barre and it was just a war against a crazy dictator.

Very unlikely, Darod would always be able to call up more men of fighting age if we were in an all out war with Hawiye and Isaaq. Darod is roughly equal in population to Hawiye+Isaaq.
