GARBAHAREY (Halbeeg News) – Eleven Al-Shabaab fighters killed and two vehicles were destroyed in a military raid in Southern Somalia, Jubbland official confirmed Tuesday.
Jubaland Dervish commander in Gedo region, Gen. Jamal Hassan Farey told VOA Somali that combined forces launched an attack on Al-Shabaab base in the outskirts of Beled-Hawo town.
Mr. Feray said Al-Shabaab was planning to use the base to launch attacks on the allied forces in the region.
“We have successfully taken over Al-Shabaab base which the group wanted to use to organise raids against Jubbaland and forces,” he said.
The General also added that two weapons and technical vehicles belonging to Al-Shabaab fighters were destroyed during the operation.
“Our troops have seized huge cache of weapons and destroyed two technical vehicles of Al-Shabaab, the group was planning to attack our bases,” he said.
Speaking about casualties on their side, Mr. Farey said they lost five soldiers in the fighting.
“We lost five soldiers and seven others were wounded including a ranking officer named Abdi Abdullahi Hassan,” he noted
