Unknown gunmen torched a family of seven in Marka southern Somalia in the recent inter-clan skirmishes.
Six children and their elderly grandmother were torched on Monday night in an area close to Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia.
Confirming the incident, Governor of Lower Shabelle region, Hassan Omar Mo'allim told reporters that the brutal killings carried by unknown assailants are believed to be part of retaliation matters citing two clans fighting.
The family members has so far been identified as Khadija Mohamed (Grandmother), Farhiya Sheikh Abdikadir Ga’al, Naima Sheikh Abdikadir Ga’al, Ahmed Abdikadir Ga’al, Mulki Abdikadir Ga’al, Muzamil Abdikadir Ga’al and Noor Abdi Osman.
In the past few days deadly clashes between two clans in Marka, the capital of lower Shabelle region has been witnessed further complicating AU peacekeeping troops who are fighting Al-Shabaab militant group in the religion.
The government of Somalia has since deployed a contingent of security personnel to quell the clashes to avoid escalation.
