The old parliament building in Mog, The Palazzo Assemblea Nazionale.

John Johnson:

"... in 1969 (in my 3rd year) I watched the only peaceful change of regime take place on the steps to the parliament. Aden Cabdulla Ismaan came out, shook hands with Shir-Ma-Arke, who then went into the building."

It was built by the Italians during the fascist period. There was a similar one built in Asmara the during the same period and both were known then as casa del' fascio. The Mogadishu one later became the pallazzo assemblea legislativa.

These buildings were designed by a group of architects from the Politecnico di Milano in the 1930's who formed a movement to show the power and modernity of architecture in fascist Italy and its colonies. The buildings were characterised by square lines and a tower. The albergo Croce del Sud was built in this style.

It looks disgusting. The new one that will be made with the support of our Turkish allies will be much better than this trash.

This was how it looked in its heydays. An architectural marvel.
