The origin of the name Maakhir/Maakhirian

Basically it is a name for people that settle in coastal Sanaag but doesn't apply to groups in the hinterland.

I've always thought that you can tell which clans were victorious in wars and conquest in the past simply by who settles in the coastal areas and has access to the ports today. It was a sign of power. Alot of the major northern clans had a coastal presence before moving southward and settling in the great migrations of the late 1800s, but some remain on the coast to this day.

is true. I had one case here in SS where a girl whom I suspect could be Maakhirian was plotting behind my back while acting friendly in the public forum kkkk. So they are not trustworthy people compared to the hinterland nomads who are more honest and upfront.

Coastal people are calmer, smarter, less aggressive, more level headed, and know how to deal with people better (could be interpreted as manipulative).

This stuff is pretty fascinating. There is some interesting case studies done on how when some Habar Awal subclans switched from nomadism to farming, it increased the rate of marriages for the men as they started practicing polygamy with the increased income and food security, and the divorce rate dropped.

It follows logically that a signifiant lifestyle change like that can influence personality, temperment and even solemn institutions like marriages and familiy.

Out of all ethnic Somali communites the best example I think is the Rahanweyn, who made the transition to farming first. It lead to them becoming more civilized and stable as a result.
