Now that most MPs and senators have been sworn, i have been thinking about the election itself. I had always taken for granted that MPs vote secretly, but I had never asked myself why? Why should MPs who vote for someone as corrupt as HSM not be held accountable by their constituents? If the MPs from my clan vote for HSM, should I not know, so that I can oppose their election in 2020, considering that is the biggest vote of their entire 4 year term?
I can see how it was good in 2004 to have a secret ballot so that MPs would not be retaliated against physically, but at this point it is counterproductive and damaging to democracy. MPs should have to answer to their constituents as to why they voted for whom they voted.
