The area was annexed from the South in 1961; and has been occupied by the North ever since. It was supposed to be returned to the South as per the terms of the 2005 Agreement, but the bullet to the head deserving traitors in Juba inexplicably allowed themselves to be dependent on Northern pipelines and thus could not act in the way that was required.

The duration of the war depends on the treacherous UAE; the war would likely end (but not entirely) if the RSF is no longer able to receive a steady supply of weapons and ammunition from the UAE.

No civil war in Sudan's history has ever been truly concluded through military victory; a Peace Agreement will end this, just like every other war.
