When Kismayo was attacked by the combined forces, the TFG and Ethiopian forces did not come to the aid of the Marehan for they had ousted the TFG(MJ) IN 2007. The first attack was carried out by Ras kamboni brigade, while the second one was by Al-shabaab led by Robow Abu-Mansour. The two groups were also heavily supported by the Harti and Ogaden clan militias who were mistreated by the occupying force. The Marehan forces were rooted out of Kismayo with their tails behind them after a heavy battle with the Marehan militia losing 80% of their fighting force. The victory of the Harti/Ogaden alliance ensured Kismayo was to be held for the foreseeable future.
