Yeah though I think people would more attached to the fate of their state. Who do they have to blame when things go wrong? But I agree that a lot of these states would be conquered by their more powerful neighbors. Especially the states that do not have direct access to the sea would push towards taking more lands to achieve that goal.

For a while ti's hell. But the strongest and most organised tribes will naturally conquer and assimilate their neighbouring ones until after a few decades we get large advanced nation states and empires. But this is assuming there's no foriegn meddling. Sadly that's the only thing stopping Africa from going into a war of nations to decide and create no borders and states.
