Norwegian Somalia has the sovereignity Somaliland has the port, each one seeks what the other has.

The legitimacy is with Somalia. Every deal even in Somaliland was signed off by a sitting Somali Prime Minister.

They got the signature everytime though it was never made public and the same Somaliland government would say something else and in private lobby Somali leadersbto sign off their projects.

The same with Puntland. When Sharif and Gaas refused to sign off the Garoowe Airport project it was Saacid Shirdoon who signed it. Shortly after, a motion was labelled against him and he was replaced with Abdiwali Sheikh Ahmed by Hasan Sheikh Mohamud.

Somalia is a soverign state and can do whatever it wants within its borders. The parliament is made up of corrupt illiterates but that does not mean it is illegitimate. Somaliland’s biggest mistake in signing the deal was giving Ethiopia a stake in a national asset and agreeing to the construction of a military base. If it had simply avoided those two things and kept the deal strictly commercial, it could have had its way.

Somaliland’s need to look like an independent state is what sunk this deal. You'd think they would know how to play the game after 27 years.

We are playing it just right, this is a big L for Somalia so far. How have we actually lost anything?

The port will still be built and the military base will be finished this year I believe. Politically this has been a huge L for Somalia.

Now when the port is finished and the military base we will flaunt it to the southerners that actually think they have a voice in this..
