It's not as similar as people claim, folks forget that Germany was going through an immense economic collapse with inflation being sky high and the morale in the country being crushed after the war. In fact I can give you three reasons for why american protofascism isn't the same as classic fascism.

1. There isn't a huge amount of previously demobilized soldiers from a world war being used being used as paramilitary street gangs to intimidate and eliminate political opponents the way Hitler used the SA.
2. There is no Soviet Union and an actual threat of a communist revolution which was an underlying condition for mobilization by the fascists and while mass immigration is a hot button issue it simply isn't strong enough to works as substitute which is why todays far right lack the ideological and organizational energy of classic fascism.
3. We don't have a huge mass of impoverished agrarian producers in the West anymore which were crucial to the success of classic fascism.
