Dated back to 1400 BC to 1300 BC, when the region was dominated by the Egyptian New Kingdom (Empire). Found all the way down in the aphotic (no light) zone by a company drilling for gas. Scholars believed bronze age commerce was conducted by ships straddling the coasts with the shore within eye contact but this finding confirms ships used to venture out into open waters.
