I will argue the first to use qabil on each other were the Italian and English. Remember that barre military training was with Italians. You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Divide and conquer, but on the level of genius I never saw an cadaan pulling offDivide and conquer, the worst possible choice was having Mogadishu as a capital.
I see somebody has been directly affected by the somali dajjalWe know you are from Somaliland, so no one will care about your opinion on MSB AUN.
I think Mogadishu was okay, as an isaaqi, half of my family was living there during the peaceful days and many qabils coexisted there just fine, most chose to stay in their areas but ppl with ambitions all went to Mogadishu, the kalaam and uncertainty created by barre forcefully turning us on each other ruined it all, we needed a capital and it didn't matter where it was.Divide and conquer, the worst possible choice was having Mogadishu as a capital.
Negotiating between clans will always happen qabil is just way too important not to. It’s near enough impossible to keep the country onside at once.
Divide and conquer was a horrible strategy though, biggest issue is clans forgive but don’t forget and people still remembered the clan wars of the earlier 20th century
An illiterate military man that managed to convince seemingly endless scores of his people to give him power, than to proceed holding on to that power to control and debase them in such a manipulative and genius way that even now, we all either worship him, or hate him, too blinded by rage to realise Barre never really died.He was a illiterate military and political leader who used clannism to stay in power instead of using using or expanding the military institution power in the state just like in Sudan or Egypt and use it for his family to be able to stay in power in the foreseeable future
I don't want to talk bad about the dead but I agree, Siyad Barre bad leadership and the war with Ethiopia has damaged our nation for good... Before he did the coup we had a fair chance of having a united country today.
I would have preferred Harar as the capital but them pesky Brits...I think Mogadishu was okay, as an isaaqi, half of my family was living there during the peaceful days and many qabils coexisted there just fine, most chose to stay in their areas but ppl with ambitions all went to Mogadishu, the kalaam and uncertainty created by barre forcefully turning us on each other ruined it all, we needed a capital and it didn't matter where it was.
But harar is quite close to Ethiopia, I get why it'd be a good place, but somewhere deeper into somali territory would have been safer if things did happen. Mogadishu isn't ideal either though I agree, too deep into the south to be linking all somalis together and what not.I would have preferred Harar as the capital but them pesky Brits...
