it's been such a while that money was distributed to the male guests in the ceremony.
Of lately and for a while now and only in North America, old heads seated at the podium ( tribal representatives ) would intercept the meher money and would quietly share amongst themselves.
Traditionally, that money should be given out to all the guests in attendance.
However, a new and terrible behavior has been happening for a decade now. These elders would blatantly pocket it. This corruption has trickled down to this happiest of happy occasion.
I mean that money was suppose to be distributed to the male guests but they pocket it amongst themselves.
Like I said, today it was distributed.
Btw, I recently distributed money in my sibling's meher. It's a blessing thing to do. We planned ahead tho and we made sure that it didn't fall in the hands of them greedy elders of the tribe.
