Turkey completes the first african military base in Mogadishu

Turkey has completed equipping its first military base in Africa in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu.

The base will host Turkish military officers to train Somali soldiers and troops in their fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization. It will become operational shortly.

The base, which has been approved by the United Nations, is the country's second overseas military installation. Their first base was established in Qatar in April as part of a security agreement to help counter threats to both countries.

Around 200 Turkish military officers will be deployed to the base in Somalia in the first stage to train 10,500 Somalian soldiers.

Turkey has been providing military assistance to Somalia for over five years now, within the scope of military and financial cooperation deals between the two governments.

Turkey also provided the African nation with over 400 million dollars in the biggest aid campaign for the country while it was struggling to fight starvation.

This is the first military base in Somalia and the smartest place to put it in at the moment is Mogadishu.

The Arabs, like UAE, are paying Somalia and Somaliland to not have relations with Iran and not letting them into our ports.

I'm sure in the future there will be other military bases in other areas of that is what you wish, and Somalia will be independent enough to not rely on being paid to not talk to Iran.

the president & his friends are very bad in business negotiations, for example the best areas in Mogadishu (seafront) have been given for free or dirt cheap for foreign countries in shape of military base for Amisom, the Turkish base, Qatar & Turkish embassies. Any brainy leader won't give away those tourist areas. The seafront is for hotels, cafes, high rises buildings.

Personally I suspect Turkey has been getting orders from NATO to civilize Somalia. It's politically more acceptable to work with Turkey than with Britain or France.

With Turkey, they don't have any sort of desire to keep Somalia weak for their own benefit like these other African countries but they wish to influence themselves more on the international level. I respect that, and their intentions don't have any negative consequences for our people.

Turkey is subordinate to the Great Satan called the United States of America. They carry out the long term foreign policy objectives of the US but Somalis don't realize as they view Turkey merely as a fellow Islamic country.
