Former US ambassador admits that the UAE strategy in Yemen (contrary to Saudi) is to split the southern portion of Yemen into it's own national state.

In fact, a Yemeni analyst suggested last week that Abu Dhabi is busily building inroads at all of Yemen’s major ports, from Mukalla in the east to Mokha on the Red Sea coast, all with an aim to harness the economic potential -

As the war in Yemen drags on with no apparent end in sight, the Emiratis appear increasingly determined to shift their focus from short-term tactical advantage to long-term strategic stabilization. As a result, while stasis seems to prevail on the battlefield, the UAE is moving ahead with plans that appear to support a much longer-term investment in Yemen, one that may include redrawing the map of the country.

Good, Yemen was only united in 1990, and the north and south hate each other. They're like the Somalis, but both sides want to leave.

South Yemen was an independent state for over 23 years, whilst Somaliland was preparing for union even whilst it was still a British protectorate. South Yemen was a communist state Somaliland didn't even have a flag. Secondly, there are some religious differences between them (Zaydi/Shia/Iranian influenced in the north). On the other hand, there are no differences between Somaliland and Somalia. Somaliland was never a real state either. So they're nothing like Somalis. 116 years of distinct history/rule, along with the fact that South Yemen was a communist country.

Somalia didn't exist, you were a colony:donkey: whilst we were independent for 76 years as a protectorate and another 5 days as a state
You were a protectorate, yet you were independent? Who were you independent from then? Or does your pride and independence come from the fact that you were ruled by an cadaan?:snoop:

The reason why Somaliland was a protectorate was because it was useless, it had no exploitable resources unlike the south. Furthermore, Somaliland was only fully ruled from 1920 (40 years).

Do you know what a protectorate is? Why am i not surprised kkkkkkkk

Yemen, Egypt, Gulf arab states, Brunei, Bhutan and so on. These countries were a protectorate, and if you do not know what that is, it is a territory which is not formally annexed but in which the crown has jurisdiction.

It is a treaty between two countries, in Somaliland's case, the Warsangeli, Isaaq and Dir sultanates. Why you jealous of Somaliland? You may not share as much history as the warsangeli, isaaq and dir with laascaanood being a recent town, but it doesn't mean you should be butthurt, we are equal and dhulbahante are accepted in Somaliland, so don't feel like that, ok? :)
