The UK government doesn't care. They just want to know how many Somalis are around. They will probably combine both results as Somali.

Data will be too small to draw analysis from but logically speaking Somalilanders should have better stats in metrics like home ownership as some came pre war which meant they had longer time to buy up council houses.

A huge number of the European Somalis who went to the UK are Isaaq. They are going to check Somalilander. Most of the European Somalis who stayed behind in European countries tend to be more Darod/Hawiye etc. This can drag down the Somalilander cohort.

Good thing this is now and not in 2011.The somali community statistics would've been horrendous.Thanks to the government changes in welfare it forced a lot of Somalis to work after universal credit came in 2013.

The blame lies with the government and not landers.The reason for this was back then it was a paper census.People wrote somalilander under African which makes sense giving the fact Somali wasn't an option.I hope they remove it in the next census.
