Uk somali artists quitting music for the deen

It's good to see that a lot of UK (London) somali rappers/wave artists have left music for the sake of Allah. Back in the day guys like Abshir and Sololdn quit, and more recently Chunkz did, who I think made these rappers think hard about it. In the last few days Zeeko, AMR, Suso and 2Smokeyy have quit as well as richi disappearing last yr. As much as a small part of me likes somalis being put on the map and recognised for our music abilities, nothing good comes out of it. There is no barakah/rizq in haram money. Esp in the case of 2smokeyy because he would insult dead guys etc and makes drill music which isn't justifiable. These guys are finally realising how much this dunya isn't worth sacrificing their akhirah, and imo, most of them wouldn't have made it 'big' anyway so there was really no point. Hopefully more somalis are discouraged from hopping on music from seeing ppl like them quit. And above all I hope it brings ppl closer to the deen insh'allah.

Apparently Chunkz walked away from a sh*t ton of money.

After three songs, he already had a globally charting song without releasing an album yet. The man was about to make big moves and left for the deen.

I mean I have to respect it alx laakin part of me feels like he got pressured by people.

I know he did it for pure purposes but there is the saying you get more money for leaving what is haram for halal.

His decision probably gained more Muslim followers who see him as a role model and probably entrenched his standing in the community. Probably not more money but it might have actually benefitted him rather than harmed him business-wise.

The only problem is that he can never do a Fouseytube now. He will not be forgiven.

His career will be even more finished than Fousey if he distances from the "muslim" image because of his very public decisions to apply islamic teachings to his career choices, which no other muslim influencer really does.

However, I extremely doubt it happening because not only does he seem like a focused individual but he is surrounded by good guys, many of whom are also Somali practicing Muslims. Ppl really underestimate how beneficial Beta Squad are to younger Somali kids.

2Smokeyy was making some money for sure. Look at his Spotify. Look at how much Spotify pays for a million streams then look at his numbers and come back to me. And there is a reason y I said in the original post that most of them wouldn’t have made it as they were small artists mostly know by Somalis, and so logically they didn’t make much from music anyway.

I don’t think chunkz got pressured. He’s been moving closer to the deen in the last 2 yrs. he said himself he never prayed, only did it when told by his mother. But now he prays 5x a day for his own imaan. Bearing in mind he’s like in his mid twenties. I think he’s just maturing tbh

What I mean to say is that he wants to focus on the deen and move away from music but from what I have seen is that he got rushed to his decision. Hear me out.

It is very great he has taken the step to quit the industry but the brother still plays music, sings other songs etc. I am not perfect, in fact I listen to music regularly but I felt like he quit the industry when he was not ready to leave music as a concept behind entirely.

When he announced he was quitting music, it was during ramadan when he was getting a lot of criticism during the year about his music. Plus, his last song, which was with Deno had models, cars and alcohol on the table, right before ramadan and did not sit well with the muslim crowd.

It’s very possible. But chunkz has said emphatically that he doesn’t do things for others. He didn’t lose weight to make his family happier or quit music for his family either. He said he’s stubborn so he whilst all the criticism was a factor, he’s ultimately gonna make these type of decisions because of his own thoughts

It looks like most of them had pious practicing friends around them that heavily influenced their decision to quit. Especially chunkz

People don’t realize how important it is to have good company around you. Inshallah, we all be blessed with righteous friends
