A.s.c. y'all
Its been really hard for me to find scholars I can trust
So when I found the website seekershub I was really happy to find somewhere to take knowledge from without having to doubt the source
The scholars seem very educated about most topics and they give well written responses and they always include proof

But as I was reading the answer to Is Islam racist by linking light skin to beauty? I got very upset and disappointed. They seem to claim that its natural to be attracted to whiteness and that even dark skinned people prefer lighter people over their own

This doesn't sit well with me at all and in hoping someone here can explain this to me

This is what they wrote:
NATURAL PREFERENCES

While discrimination occurs in many ways and for many reason, it is also important to acknowledge and differentiate this from natural human inclinations. Of course, these preferences will vary between time, place, and people, however, on the whole, they are found in many people and nations. For example, as humans, we generally prefer tallness over shortness, slimness over weightiness, and for many people, lightness over darkness (and this is holds even in countries where people are all of darker skin). Why do we have these inclinations and preferences? Is it a part of our inborn nature or through cultural fashioning, or both?

This is impossible to answer conclusively. Yet having such preferences does not necessarily mean that people have a prejudice against the opposite of what they naturally incline towards, nor that they deem the opposite as unappealing. As long as this is the case, we cannot blame or hold to account the natural inclinations people experience.

I'd say it's both. because most people around the world associate darker skin with poverty since poor people are out in the sun and therefore darker, whereas in richer, white parts it means you spend a lot of time outside in the sun vacationing so they prefer tan skin

this seems like an accurate answer:ehh::ehh::ehh:

They didn't make that distinction tho
All they seemed to say is that we're naturally attracted to whiteness

they said it's impossible to know whether it's inborn or through cultural fashioning as with other things people tend to desire, like height but it doesn't mean the person is prejudice for having any inclinations for one towards the other as it is a natural thing and it doesn't mean they will automatically dislike the other, and I don't think they mean all people are inclined to lighter skin either
