The governor has divided his subclan and has alienated the two other clans who are part of the power sharing agreement. The elections in Wajir are interesting in that clans have usually agreed to allow each other uncontested runs for governor, senator and deputy governor. The Degodiye seem to be divided on who to nominate, so the Ogaden have nominated someone for the governor's seat and are seeking a alliance with the Ajuran by offering them the deputy governor's position.

Disagreement among the Degodiye

Some Degodiye form a coalition with the Ogaden, see the county senator present

Ogaden nominate their own candidate for governor, notice that they did not nominate anyone for senator.

Interesting times ahead for Wajir

The Degodiye are worried because they have 3 candidates running for governor. Their vote seems to be breaking apart.
The Ogaden in Wajir-South and the Ajuran in Wajir-West only need some Degodiye in Adan Kaynan's Eldas in order to win a majority. The Ogaden should offer the deputy governorship to Ajuran and offer Adan Kaynan an upgrade from MP to Senator. He could bring along enough of his subclan to get a majority.

The Ogaden and some subclans of the Ajuran seem to have made an alliance, while the Degodiye are divided. The Ogaden it seems could have easily won this election if more of them registered themselves in Wajir South instead of in Garissa which is pure Ogaden. The subclan competition within the Ogaden seems to be the biggest obstacle to them gaining the governorship in Wajir. If they get the governorship they can shift the investment in agriculture from the barren Wajir north and Wajir east to the fertile Lorian Swamp along the border with Garissa. Shortsightedness will doom them.

Is there an active farming community in Wajir South?
