Was the cashier being Islamophobic?

Hey guys.

So I went to Sephora yesterday with a friend of mine who happens to be a hijabi (scarf not jilbaab) anyways, we went make up shopping at several places but we bought a bunch of fall make up in Sephora. The cashiers were asking the customers if they would like to donate a dollar for a breast cancer research organization. My friend was Infront of me, she bought her stuff, and then I checked out my stuff, the cashier asked me if I would like to donate a dollar, I said sure. But she didn't ask my friend, then my friend asked the cashier why she didn't ask her to donate and the cashier said she didn't want to intrude her with the question (Wtf does that even mean). Obviously I was offended and so was my friend.

Was the cashier being Islamophobic? Because there were couple of other customers Infront of us and she kept asking them, then my friend went up to her and she didn't say anything to her, then I was behind my friend and she asked me if I would like to donate.

Are we being sensitive about this or was this a legit reason to be offended?

Happy weekend guys.

You don't wear hijab? :ohhh:

It's only been a couple of weeks since the terrorist stabbing. I guess people are still on edge.

"f*ck this mooslem hijab wearing no way I'll let her donate a dollar to Breast Cancer Research."

I personally don't think in any capacity that the cashier was indeed Islamophobic. I think there was just a misunderstanding and it doesn't in any way warrant being offended. Just my opinion though.

Note : The starting sentence was only constructed to give another hypothetical view of the situation from the eyes of the cashier. The words might be exaggerated for dramatic purposes. I do not endorse or condone it.

Peace

Hi Reiko, nafta ka waran? Is this your way of telling us you don't wear hijab? :yacadiim:

Yes, I do think it is odd because breast cancer affects all women. With or without hijab.

Wait I thought people knew I don't wear scarf (I'm not proud of it though)
:meleshame:

Anyways yes it does affect all women but I thought it was offensive to only leave out my friend while asking others to donate.

@madamelioness alxamdullilah. Xalada ka waraan?

Some people see the hijab and get spooked and don't know how to approach you. Maybe she thought the hijabi would hear "breast" and faint? Yaa og dadkaan deen ma leh you can't expect too much.

So people actually think hijabis don't speak English? This is so odd and disturbing.

This isn't overtly 'Islamaphobic'. Could be based on a past bias of hers. Like maybe they're not prone to paying, or someone was cold or blew up on her or something like that. It only takes one with something like the hijab. The language barrier answer is also a valid guess.

not so sad after all
mn people are weird, they're fuley to the core but angry as well (bad combo), and never express their true sentiment. it's likely this lady was scared of her and is trying to play it off in the 'minesota nice' type of way

Maybe, but that wasn't very professional on her part.
