Was the Dervish movement was a mistake?

I've been reading a lot about sayid Mohammed Hasan's campaigns against the british and I was surprised to see just how many Somalis died in the war. Like damn Dhulbuhante lost half their population and Bimaal lost a crazy amount as well. I can't help but think what the huge rammifications of these population declines did for Somalia given how there weren't many of us back then.
:mjcry:

I was even more surprised to find out that the sayid himself was responsible for killing other Somalis and constantly attacked other clans when they didn't join him. Can the dervishes even be called anti-colonial at that point?

Also the 100,000-200,000 death figure isn't true at all, no census or actual reliable evidence to support it.
The British said that was what sayyid "killed" in between 1912-14? I mean like, how could a human being with enough braincells and knowledge about the situation believe this?!

It is what it is. I would've fucked up them gaal rac clans too if I was a dervish. Better to fight invaders like Somalis have done from time and memorial than be a submissive b1tch. :kanyeshrug:

I'm not really sure sxb. This was the source I was reading

Your confused, Dervish movement is among the best thing to come out of somalia in the past 150 years along with the Military rule. Also you must realize, the british lost bad and they have strong hold on history. They mightve changed a few facts here and there to potray the dervishes as negative.

The Muslim Somali resists colonial rule, he is a MAD! Mullah!! Nothing but an expansionist barbarian oppressor.
The Christian Ethiopian resists colonial rule, he is the first African to successfully resist colonial rule wow! Lol the hypocrisy

It is a fact. Why do you think that all Somalis fought against them? They considered all Somalis to be gaalo. Anyone who did not join the Salahiyya was an kafur
The only thing that helped them was that they had a lot of rifles at a time when most Somali tribes carried spears
They were stealing the reer miyi' livestock, burying their wells, and killing women and children. sheikhs they didn't care

The sayyid war wasn't against the gaalo but the Qadariyah sufi tariqa that majority of somalis followed as he didn't get over from losing that debate with Qadariyah clerics in Berbera that led to him to be expelled from the city by the local people kk 😅

The sayyid war was against both groups.
Also do you have evidence that he lost the debate? If i recall correctly he left berbera after the Qadariyah persuaded the british government to close his mosque.
