If they are willing to do that to Turkey, a powerful nato nations, what makes any UAE booty-clapper think they won't do it here?

However they still did major damage to his reputation as a "democratic" statesmen. The necessary cleanup after the coup was portrayed as something akin to Pinochet actions in Chile.

He lost a lot of support in the EU and is forced to play his cards more often in the geo-politcal arena in order to keep a hold on to Turkish influence globally; while they would've preferred a more passive soft power approach like they did previously.
