We need a replacement for this word

Tawxiid Alle lahaw, Talo na Alle saaro.
It does not sit right with me that we Somalis use foreign loanwords especially if they’re on important documents such as the Passport which we call Baasaboor.

Instead we should coin new indigenous words instead of crippling our language with unnecessary loanwords.

Hereby I submit this replacement for Baasaboor, correct me or let’s hear other replacements for loanwords that we could easily find Somali equivalent for, or coin Somali words for.

passport = dalmar, dalgal, (from dal meaning country and mar meaning to pass or go to; and gal meaning to enter)

another variation would be

passport = shati kaynaan (from shati meaning permit or authorisation ; and kaynaan which means to travel far away)

passport = shati safar
passport = shati socdaal

Out of these options I’d recommend we use one of these:

The Passport = Shati Socdaalka
The Passport = Dalmarka, Dalgalka

I've never hear the word 'shati' :yacadiim:

What about 'mustawaqo'? Don't know what it exactly means, or if it is an Arabic or Amharic loanword itself. But I've heard it used in the context of a document you need when crossing the Ethiopian border. I reckon it means visa, ID or passport.

ID = aqoonsi / kaarka aqoosiga.

I’m suggesting Dal-Cadeeye, daltus, dal-raac, dal-muujiye, dal-garansii (garo= to know) , dal-garo, dal-kas, dal-kase.
I prefer dalraac. raac means to ride a car or plane or other things when you are going to different country so you need something to identify you and your origin (dal). Also raac means to follow, trace and identify.

Cabdi wuxuu raacay diyaarada.
Ninkan dhintay meel loo raaco lama hayo. Bal Sawir uun kaa qaad cid ayaa sheegani.

Dalraac (noun) = meaning passport
Example :
- Maanta waxaan tagay safaarada Soomaaliya ee Uganda, waxaan rabay inaan soo goosto dalraac.
-Dalraac ma wadataa?
- Dalraacii ayaa iga lumay.
-Dalraacayga ayay iga qaateen.
-Shaqaalaha loo diro Sucuudiga waxaa laga qaataa dalraacooda.
- dalraacayga, dalraaceena, dalraacooda, dalraacooda.
-dalraacyo,

I like the derivations you’ve done there!

albeit I’ve to disagree, dalraac does not make sense since it’s has ‘raac’ = to accompany.

But I do agree with Dalcadeeye or Dalmuujiye both great choices!
