what do you think of the Somalis are funny stereotype?

I think media perception. YouTube, tiktok etc. I hate it too. I'm quite serious with people I don't know and I've had people commented they "hadn't expected it". Why would I be a clown for free with strangers?

The reason why self deprecating Somalis exist. People see us as jesters and not to be take seriously that's why we're a punching bag for everyone to laugh because we ourself don't take the Somali name seriously and enable ajanbis to make a moxkery out of us, we also take everything as a joke when there's nothing to laugh about .

It’s annoying. I’d rather we be known as smart like the East Asians, or athletic. Intelligent and athleticism are respected whereas being stereotyped as funny is essentially like being a clown.

Us being funny, having big foreheads, being scared of dogs and not passing the ball in sports are the stereotypes I grew up on. Mostly harmless unless someone was trying to be malicious with the forehead jokes, which was always easy to tell anyway.

The forehead thing makes no sense cuz majority of the time I see non-Somalis with big ass foreheads. Being scared of dogs I'm afraid is true for me...

the forehead thing is true, I think it is quite a beautiful feature though. I have it and all my family and every Somali I have ever met, it makes you age better. I do notice however that my forehead got bigger as I grew older, probably thanks to wearing the hijab full-time and having low iron and vitamin D.

Traction alopecia mixed with low iron/vitamin D. Also if you don't eat well or stress out a lot it will trigger it even more

i remember some guy asked me where im from and i said im somali and he said "your probably bare funny, tell me a joke" I just met this guy and now he thinks imma tap dance and jive for him this stereotype is annoying ngl.

It's Somalis fault tbh. We pushed the idea that are funny and class clowns. Just look at tiktok, every other videos is a Somali pandering to ajnabis about how funny is Somalis our. "look at us we are so funny we can make you laugh".

Even though Somalis tend to be funny and have a natural tendency to be comedic it's our fault that we never let our other traits shine like our entrepreneurship academic abilities or even athletics abilities. Instead we like to be people who make others laugh.

There’s nothing wrong with being considered funny. Means you can have a good time with us. Women like a man who can keep them entertained
Newsflash sxb, if a woman is laughing at your jokes it means she likes you a lot. It’s the number 1 hint they give. Nothing to do with keeping them entertained (in that manner) :pachah1:
