not so sad after all
inshallah if i have kids I hope that I wouldn't be too strict with them on day to day matters. I mean, I would still make sure they are living in accordance with islam of course, but I wouldn't but I wouldn't expect them to have a particular career choice or do everything in a certain way (which is how it was at my house loool) like if one my kids wants to get dreadlocks or dye their hair a different color, I wouldn't care as long (as they aren't up to anything haram), I'd give them leeway to have their own personality and whatnot.

maybe it's just me, but It seems like *most* somali household discourage individuality?

on a sidenote my parents were actually and are great parents alhamdulilah

Would take them to museums, zoos & aquariums every other month. Would enrol them into hiking, karate & go karting. Would take them travelling to make sure they are cultured. Would let them enjoy being a kid to the fullest.

I wouldn't impose my beliefs on them and I'd encourage them to take everything they hear with a pinch of salt.

I wouldn't send the kids to a dugsi and waste time memorizing Arabic sounds without understanding what the heck you are memorizing.

I'm not gonna beat my kids. I believe psychological discipline is more effective anyway. Can't lie tho, that sleep after your parents karbaashed yo ass was nice af :mjcry:

My childhood was amazing and I wouldn't trade it with anything. I wouldn't do anything differently than the way my parents raised me. My parents are my role models.

it doesn't hurt to memorize it when you are young, and learn as you go along. that's how I did it

Well If I had kids Id be chill for The most part If they do good in school and avoid haram things id spoil em With alot of love and gifts

One thing id do different than my parents is I wouldnt force my daughters to Cook and clean instead Everybody would pitch in If you aint helping you aint eating

Another thing is Id always keep my word no matter what this One time me and my friend were waiting for my dad since he was our ride home my dad arrived 2 hours later while we stood there under The tree covering from the Rain my dad comes running and we get happy

Cause we thought he feels bad that hes late than he tells us we gotta run since its only a 5 min parking..

Agreed. @Amun just send them to dugsi to learn alif baa taa etc.. and the Tajweed while their youngings. Give them a solid foundation. The Quran is very complex and deals with a lot of adult topics like adultery, divorce, apostasy, etc.. They won't even understand at such a young age. Once they have a good foundation and they mature enough send them to Tafsir classes. That's what I'd do at least.

I wouldn't change anything. My childhood was beyond amazing.
My parents were and still are the most amazing parents a child could have.
I know for sure I can't be even a quarter good as my parents.
