It’s dropped recently because everybody knows if you try to escape through Libya (only real way to Europe) you’ll end up as a slave and that’s even worse. Having open seas as a border really helps to stop people escaping too.

If you go through Ethiopia you’ll get ambushed and Djibouti have strict border controls. So that only leaves Kenya
