Mongols clans were United, the Somali clans were not. Had we had a commander unite the nomads we would stand a chance perhaps. But definitely not when the Mongols were already all over Asia, by that time it was too late to try fight Mongols they already ruled most of the world that mattered.

The mongols did have naval power but not the best. They were definitely capable of invading peoples land through sea, ocean or any other major body of water. Mongols were victorious in many naval expeditions.

The mongols did try to invade Mogadishu in the 13th century, they send an envoy and we locked him up in a prison they send another one and he got locked up as well

The mongols knew Mogadishu was a very wealthy city due to its robust trade network and strategic location. The Mongols halted all military expeditions to Mogadishu after their envoy was arrested. The Mogadishu sultante even prepared a strong naval force to protect the city after arresting the secret Mongol envoy.

were we large enough to form armies back then? Mongol usually tried to set up trade partnerships, who knows if they would want to invade.
