What would be the most efficient way of removing the primitive clan based societies that are in somalia.

Possible reforms:
Remove clan elders from high positions and remove their power base
Staunch Educate the growing youth and the next generation of children
Degrade clan based associations and ideals to the bottom

If these seem too much of a risk feel free to actually provide more or different ways in combating clanimo.

All you need is a strong centralised government. That's how all nations got rid of tribal affiliations

You can’t erase lineages and the associations that are born from it, qaabilism must run it’s course naturally, if Somalia has long periods of peace and stability, you’ll see that clan affiliations and clan based rhetoric will naturally die down, then people will come to respect and tolerate each other whilst still being aware of their lineage and their clans

We need something else which is centralised which makes unity a backbone of the entire country. How do we bring about unity without making it sound singular and just 1. I wouldnt mind a UK styled parliment where theres the pm and his ministers. They should all answering public questions + mp questions.

it is possible but its been 30 years. Basically 3 generations.

Allahu aalam, what my parents say is that it will always be around but it becomes less and less apparent when the country isn’t in strife or war, such as when they were growing up

after a few years of stability we should encourage somalis to move about in different cities.

What I mean to say in conclusion is, qaabilism can’t naturally be erased and neither can simple patriotism fix it, it simply requires that it run its course and naturally die down

inshallah it gets erased but its going to be a hard and sorry sight to see the next generation waking up to see what the country has instore for them. Plain tribalism and economic disillusion. I dont want the next generation blaming our generation for not doing anything to stop this disease.

Take a look at history.

  • Mongolians united under a strong leader to overcome clan squabbles and conquer everything.
  • For Muhammed (PBUH) religion was the driving force to unite the Arab clans and eventually non Arab clans.
  • Japanese lost their clan system in the meji restoration(new ruler changed the system).

All the times in history the clan system was changed have something in common. A person came along and said I'm going to change this by force or bring everyone together with a uniting ideological/religious force.

How can we extrapolate this to Somalia. I think there needs to be a peoples army who sprout out all over the country who are strictly anti qabil and pro unity.

I dont see any cases where the clan structure fades away without a system change.

There are many people who gain from qabils. Why would they let their influence die out.

Clan elders + Clan sultans should be put in care homes. That should be the first step. If they refuse, throw them in the ocean, we will see if gUuL (clan name) will save them

Like the English did to the Scots. There is no other way to remove the influence of qabiil

In two of the cases you mention, tribalism and clan feuds made a resurgence, after the deaths of the first four rightly guided caliphs (May Allah be pleased with them), tribalism re-emerged under the rule of the Umayyads and their preferential treatment towards their fellow Bani Umayya, later on full blown tribal war erupted in the first and second fitnas, in which the Qaysi and Yamani aligned tribes feuded with each other for power. You are right in the sense that a strong and powerful ruler can help abate tribalism but it’s not a permanent solution.

on the second example you gave, the mongols did unite under Genghis khan, that’s true, but we saw tribalism and feuds re emerge after the deaths of the khans and collapse of the 4 khanates, in the Mongolian heartland two tribal confederacies emerged who battled each other for centuries, the khorchin and the oirats, very vicious feuds that still even influence the politics of modern day Mongolia, even though it may not be the evident from first glance.

We had a strong centralized government from 1969 to 1991. How did that turn out? Centralization isn't an adequate solution to Somalia's problems. When I lived in Xamar in 2006, the Islamic Courts Union also tried to centralize power and they failed miserably.
