What would have happened if Lij Iyasu won the Battle of Segale & taken the throne as a Muslim king?

Good chance that Harar would be the capital & we would see a large conversion to Islam from the Habesha.

I wanna hear y’all thoughts?

Lij Iyasu was a terrible leader. Sure he supported Muslims and spent most of his time in Harar but I mean politically.
Everything he touched became ashes.
It was bad enough that the Shewan Nobility welcomed him half-heartedly because it was Menelik's last wish but he outright kick them out of their previous offices without ever worrying about what all these powerful men were gonna do to him. On top of that he wasn't Amhara and ruling as an Amhara king (Iyasu was Menelik's grandson from his daughter, his dad was Tigrayan) so the Shewans were already pissed off about that.
Even the church began hating on him because being married to multiple women made them believe he was a Muslim.

His foreign policy was even worse. Sudan, Kenya and British somaliland were under the British, Djibouti under the French and Eritrea and Somalia under the Italians. Yet this 16 year old Emperor thought it was smart to side with Sayid Mohamed Abdullah Hassan and also support The Ottomans and Germans in WW1. He was asking to be overthrown.
The Nobility were waiting to replace him with one of their own, Zewditu (Menelik's daughter/Iyasu's aunt) became the choice and beside her is Ras Tafari (later Emperor Haile Selassie I)

Tbh his entire rule was a mess and I wouldn't support him either way. Good heart but terrible leader.

He had a good heart but wasn’t a mature enough King. If he was given time to mature & him and Sayyid defeated the colonialists we could have had a united Muslim Horn. I could have been lavishing living in the capital Harar πŸ˜”

Did he actually become muslim? we know he was very interested in islam but nothing says about him converting.
Yeah. I’m pretty sure he admits it himself & people in Harar said he stayed there a lot and was seen praying with them

Lij Iyasu’s father wasn’t Tigrayan but Wollo Oromo who descended from Muslims. His father was forced converted to Christianity by Menilik.Lij Iyasu was simply returning to the religion of his forefathers

Nah he was Oromo and I heard he had some Somali in him too
That's interesting. I always thought he was among the Muslim tigrays from Wollo.
I don't remember everything in detail since it has been years since I read Ethiopian history.
From what I recall once Lij Iyasu became Emperor and refused any other regent declaring he will rule and rule alone, he dismissed all old noblemen and royalty changing them with his own youthful friends.
He proceeded to make his father the Ras of Wollo. The fact he was the King of wollo and tigray made me think he was tigrayan but ig I was wrong.

@Garaad Awal to correct you there Lij Iyasu's father, Ras Mikael was converted by Yohannes IV (fav Emperor after Haile Selassie). I remember that clearly it was either convert to Christianity or you die. The real Muslims chose death over gaalinimo but this kaafir Mikael chose Christianity and his fellow Muslims followed him. He did it by choice, he could've died an honorable muslim but he didn't.
