Puntland ministry of finance released some statistics on the amount of revenue it generated per month in 2019.

When it comes to Inland revenue , which is simple taxation , most of the money was collected in Bari:

Similiarly when it comes to custom revenue, Bari makes the bulk of the income.

Here is a regional map of puntland:

Interesting that Bai collects more then Mudug implying Galkayo is quiet abit economically smaller then Bosaso. Sanaag+Haylen also provides ~150K a month implying that 1.8 million dollars per year is provided by the region.

Contrast this with Somaliland region of Sanaag:

Thus Somaliland region produces approximately 5 times lessrevenue, exposing East sanaag as more economically mature. This could be due to population or economic investment.

It's more due to the low development in the area, people fight when they have no money to live.

Thank you for bringing forward an intelligent thread in which we can discuss development/finance

There is a hole in your analysis in which you extracted the revenue collected in January which was 164K for the rest of the year. You can't do this as if you continue reading that very same report you got your tables from you can see the revenue collected in the other months like April was

So in April 55K was collected. So it's best not to extrapolate for the rest of the year as we simply don't know the figures. Maybe try to find other sources to highlight the yearly revenue?

Western Sanaag is more developed and contain the bigger cities. Let us compare Badhan to Ceel Afweyn and Las Khorey to Maydh.

Search Puntland ministry of finance, it has great statistics on where the funds are from and where it goes. Probs some skimming of funds but it gives a good indication.

Most of northern Somalia focuses on camels and tariffs.

Galkayo is 2nd after Bosaso but during early years of PL galkayo had more revenues than Bosaso most livestock, dairy products, honey and lately fish exports through bosaso port or Galkayo is from mudug, health and education facilities + hotels used by many central somalia and doollo of ogadenia bring huge revunues too. Galkayo airport is used by folks from beledweyne to burtinle to Wardheer with huge revenues but not shared with government. Biggest change is when Reer mudug start putting their $$$ into infrastructure, armed forces and Garacad port also galkayo airport instead of taxes.

Deni made major moves and reforms next year Mudug will be #1 revunue stream inshallah

BTW Bursalah alone or any district in Mudug produce more revenues than entire badhan/dhahar/lasqoray combined just that 2019 admin didn't receive a cent it went to community led projects like Turdhibi customs, garacad port, new galkayo airport, roads and street lights/schools in every town.

I don't know, i do believe east sanaag gets more money then taxed. Also SSC projects are considered within the aid.
