No it wasn't a refugee camp but lots of refugees went there during the war. Those came back as the war finished

I looked it up and It was a camp according to UN sxb. 250,000 refugees went there in the 1988 war

it was the largest camp in the world at some point and was closed in July 2004.

the reason i asked, is because i was just browsing through ddsi towns, and this town caught my eye, apart from Jigjiga it seems to the 2nd biggest town in ddsi. there are few towns like wardheer who can compete but harta sheikh just came out of nowhere. its even bigger than neighbouring dhagax buur and kebri bayax

Hartasheekh is not larger than Qabribayax by much. It is an Isaaq town, mostly Habar Awal.

Largest cities in DDSI are Jigjiga, Godey and Dhagaxbur. You actually can't tell much about population in DDSI from Urbanization. Afdheer has close to 1 million people but has no city, only towns.
