Today at a pro palestine protest i saw a flag that remember somehow but i didn't from where, after doing research i found that it was the flag of former south yemen and than it got to me. I searched ogaden war and looked at the alies of ethiopia and there i saw it. South yemen( after russia cuba isnotreal etc)who sent 2000 soldiers to our kuffar neighbours. So my question is why? (This is not a thread for ur arab inferiority complex)

they are communists. Siad Barre wasnt the cleverest man. He tried beefing the USA and the Soviets. He was a communist and took ogaden. And expected the soviets and the cuban to clap. Neither the US or Soviets came in their aid.

Here was the context: Both .Et and .So were member of Warsaw Allies, where other members lead by the Soviet Union brought Mingiste and S Barre to negotiate, as mediated by E Germany. S Barre was offered S Galbeed, and in return to halt the advances. He refused. Other Warsaw Allies incl. Cuban and S Yemeni armies, with Soviet hardware, forced Somali army to withdraw. During the withdrawal, Somalia sustained more casualties than the whole conflict.
What a psychopath, so he was offered somali galbeed and refused to later go to war for it?
During the war, after the Somali army made considerable gains. It was detailed in a book written by then E Germany's Chancellor, who was in charge of mediations. The successes at the front have gone to his head. Do bear in mind .Et was in shambles at the time having just dethroned their Emperor, less organised, and with a weaker army than .So, and according to Somali generals, there were units staged to assault Adis.

What I mean is... I believe Cuba and the USSR were always going to side with Ethiopia over Somalia.
Because what is the goal of Cuba and the Soviets? Promote communism in Africa.
Somalia was supposed to be "Islamic socialism". Ethiopia wasn't "Orthodox Christian socialism". They were more pure socialist in ideology.
Therefore I think it was inevitable that the commies would want Ethiopia to win.

The Somali army was like 100m away from Addis. Given a few more months without communist interference the capital would've fallen to Siad Barre's forces.
The Orthodox element is very true, and Muslims are so bloody naive, to date, they almost always fall for the Christian secular razzle-dazzle minutiae; of relevance is: as relayed by one of the legal team travelling with S Barre at the time, as to how the saga unfolded, it was due to pure incompetence on the part of the .So leadership, being drunken in euphoria post successive wins on the battlefields, unable to see or read the geopolitical facet of the conflict, and it was all downhill from then on. To demonstrate the .So leadership's clueless in the art of diplomacy, and to even further convolute nature of political alliances, .So leadership flew, on a bugged flight, from Moscow to D.C switching sides in a matter of minutes, as if the US would ever go against the interest of the 3rd Christian Orthodox State in the world, and side with a Muslim country on the precipice of assuming power over the entire HoA. Bloody amateurs!
For some accounts, even closer. There was no meaningful .Et defence left other than the Western - Harar front. Constant nightly raids exacerbated the .Et army, already demoralised, disorganised, and weakened by the culling of Sr Generals by the Mingistu regime, depleting their ability to strategisze defence, let alone attack! I think G Wolde, at the .Et Foreign Ministry at the time, alluded to as much in his memoir (I have not read it, but have seen other works referencing his).

No they didn't... There was conferences trying to negotiate before the war but when it became clear Somalia was gonna invade. Yemeni soldiers were on the ground alongside Cubans and Soviets killing Somalis in ogaden.

Apparently they told them something else to get them fired up but when they found out they were killing Somali Muslims, they stopped and retreated
Sounds so inlogical sxb as if we are so alien to them that yemenis never knew somalis were muslim.
This probably was the turning point. The Americans had no stake in this war. The somali government should've rather seemed greater alliance with the Soviets and try to win their sympathy.
